Blood tests

Have you got symptoms of liver disease?

Sometimes there are no symptoms. But if there were.....

Some symptoms of liver disease

This is often a sign of an enlarged liver

Jaundice

This is often a sign  of high Bilirubin >30

Signs of fatty liver

The next step is to get your bloods checked to see what your symptoms mean

Say you get the worst bloods in the hospital one day..like me.. like this -

My bloods May 23

The GP told me to catch a taxi to the hospital straightaway !!

I had a bad cough. in May 23.  I went to the GP.  The GP got my bloods. She told me to catch a taxi to the hospital emergency ! So I walked into the hospital with a bung lung.

I walked out of the hospital 7 days later with a bad liver and Cirrhosis. (Lung fixed itself after 3 months).

So this is my warning to you guys - get checked now and Act now !

I had no idea at first, what to do, even afer many months. Then I made a liver plan.

2.5 years later ...all bloods in range. Reds, whites, platelets (161) ,INR (1.1), Cholesterol, HbA1c

General chemistry (many different names)

My story is in Chapter 8. Other patient stories as well. Many patients gmake improvements.

Similar story above - all bloods inc FBC in range. Platelets just over, but I'll take it, lol !

Firts step - see your GP, check symptoms then bloods

The role of your GP and bloods

We go into great lengths in the book what GP's do and how they can assist you. They are expert at blood tests, orderingsome  scans, refering you to specialists and other allied health professionals.

They actually do some liver tests as standard, with their hands. like a liver dullness test for liver size, Ascites, in their rooms. Check for jaundice, Edema, etc. And of course, your vitals.

Sometimes they are like Sherlock Holmes and get many blood tests than even the liver specialist hasn't heard of. On the otherhand, from my experience, the liver specialist has a strict list of what they want. I know all these blood tests. Don't forget, this is not medical advice. Talk to your doctor regarding your individual blood tests. There are hundreds of blood tests, overall.

There are the 6 standard panels of blood tests.

Then there are the vitamins and mineral tests.

Then there are the cancer blood tests like CA199, Alpha Feto protein.

Blood tests - what's in the book

Gain knowledge about the 46 minimum liver blood tests

You need to get some overall knowlege about your blood test results are for starters. Don't forget - your GP is the expert in interpreting the tests.

Don't worry - we have a library of online resources that describe what all the blood tests mean. There is a famous one run by Australian doctors.

We have a library of libraries lol !!!!!!

Your GP can help you to fix some abnormals - the medical solution

The GP's have an arsenal of  medical solutions to help you improve or restore your blood tests. They may be able to prescribe you your way out of trouble ! This is before they order scans, refer to specialists, andother  allied professionals.

We all know that GP's have Ozempic, statins, Metformin, Lactulose, Sprironolactone, Furesemide, Allopurinol, iron supplements , etc. Right ?

You don't know about these, lol?  Don't worry. Just joking. I didn't know, either, 2.5 years ago.

 Read the book, silly  !!

Your GP needs to do the medical calculators - you can do these too.

Your GP has certain practice guidelines from their associatons and authorities, that trigger the requirement to send you to a liver specialist. The medical calculator FIB 4 is the classic example.  Those guidelines for referal  are in the book.

You can do all the liver calculators yourself, they are all in the book.  You can see when you are going to die, like in MELD and CTP !!! lol

I had MELD 31 in May 23, Now its 9. Its amazing what you can do if you act now, and make a plan for restoring your liver.

There is a library of all of the calculators in thebook. Read the book to find out more.

You then make a plan for natural improvements with your diet and exercise

There are hundreds of pages in the book devoted to  foods supplements, vitamins and exercise. In each chapter there is something unique you won't find in any other book.

Find out some of my own proven tips I have used for my own body.

All your plans are designed to improve blood tests, Fibroscan scores, Ultrasound appearances, muscle gains, wiping out your peronal symptoms like itchiness, fatigue, jaundice. easy bruising, etc. Its all covereed in the book with the space we have.

Everyone is different. Talk to your GP.

Did you know that blood ranges are adjusted for age and sex.( I don't mean after you have it, lol)

Most people think are ranges are the all the same. But they are adjusted behind the scenes, in the labs. They don't tell you. I have a complete set of ranges for ages even for 2 years olds, in the book. which is handy for parents.

People don't know thst eah blood company have theor own reference reanges. For example, AST and ALT for male may be 40-45 depending on the blood lab.

Do an audit blood test when you need to

I have proven that one company's  PT machine is bung.  The story in the book. Just for your comfort.  One company was 14.8, 15.8. Two other companies 13.0. They all were INR 1.1 , over six tests. Net result - bung PT machine.

This was important because I thought i had to start taking viamin K. The numbers affect what action your take,  to restore your liver.

I like getting the numbers and taking action ! That's me ! Its up to you.

Every now and again I get an audit blood test, just to confirm or deny a previous bad OR GOOD blood test is reliable.

I feel I need to know because some blood test numbers can change every day, like Platelets. (Its in the book). Your fasting glucose changes every minute.
